The preparations for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 have now begun. It is understood that the upcoming season of IPL will be played in India. IPL Mega Auction will be held for the 2022 season on February 12 & 13 in Bengaluru.
IPL 2022 Teams
From this year, there will be 10 IPL franchises namely – Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, Lucknow Super Giants, Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Team Ahmedabad (name to be announced).
Lucknow Super Giants are owned by RPSG group who won the bid for the franchise and paid ₹7,090 crore while Team Ahmedabad’s winning bid was put by CVC Capital for ₹5,625 crore.

Where and when will the IPL 2022 mega auction be held?
As mentioned above, IPL 2022 mega auction will be a two-day bidding event, which will take place on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru. The event is scheduled to start at 11:00 AM IST on both days.
Where to catch the live streaming and telecast of IPL 2022 mega auction?
As Star Sports Network is the official broadcaster of IPL 2022 in India, Star Sports channels will telecast of the mega auction live on TV. In order to catch the live streaming, one can switch to Disney+Hotstar.
What were the rules for retention and draft picks?
The eight existing teams were allowed to retain a maximum of four players ahead of the bidding event, out of which only one can be a foreign retention. The two new teams then picked three players apiece among the non-retained players. All sides were allotted a purse of INR 90 crore. However, they have been left with different amount after making the retentions and draft picks.
No RTM card available
Unlike the previous auction events, no right-to-match card is available this time around. The RTM card would allow a franchise to buy a player who played for them in the previous season for the highest bid the player has received.
IPL 2022 Mega Auction
With the two new IPL teams, the rest of four teams were asked to retain a maximum of four players from their previous squads and no Right To Match (RTM) cards will be used in the auction.
The new IPL teams were asked to draft a maximum of three players before the Auction.
The last Mega IPL Auction was held back in 2017 when Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) returned from their two-year ban.
