‘Beneficiary Identification States Responsibility’

Replying to a question, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that selection / identification of beneficiaries for PM Kisan Yojana is the responsibility of State and Union Governments and when correct / verified data of concerned beneficiaries is uploaded, PM Kisan Portal is uploaded by the states. Only then the money of the scheme is deposited directly in the bank account of the beneficiaries.

Initiate recovery proceedings from ineligible farmers

He said that it was the responsibility of the concerned state governments to recover the amount deposited in the accounts of the ineligible beneficiaries. Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar told Parliament that the states and Union Territories have initiated proceedings to recover Rs 3,000 crore from 42 lakh ineligible farmers under the PM Kisan Yojana. These are farmers who do not meet the conditions of PM-KISAN scheme.

Recovery under SOP

“We have noticed that some ineligible beneficiaries, including taxpayers, have benefited from the scheme,” he said. While farmers who file income tax returns or do government jobs are excluded from the scope of the scheme. After identifying such people, their respective states have started the process of recovering money from ineligible beneficiaries as per Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). Apart from this, many steps have been taken by the government to ensure that eligible farmers get the benefit of the scheme.

Most cases in these states

The highest number of these ineligible farmers are in Assam, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Punjab and Bihar. According to the Agriculture Minister, Rs 554.01 crore has been transferred to the accounts of 8.35 lakh ineligible farmers in Assam. About Rs. 438 crore, about Rs. 358 crore is to be recovered. At the same time, Rs 340.56 crore will be recovered from ineligible farmers in Tamil Nadu and Rs 258.64 crore from ineligible farmers in Uttar Pradesh.

Let me tell you that on Monday alone, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave the green signal to deposit Rs 19,500 crore in the accounts of more than 9.75 crore farmers as the ninth installment of the Kisan Sanman Nidhi Yojana. Under this scheme, the beneficiary farming families are given an economic benefit of Rs. 6000 per annum. Transfers are made in three installments this year. Under this scheme, so far Rs. More than Rs 57 lakh crore of honorarium has been transferred to the bank accounts of farming families.
