No more hassle with driver’s license, RC from 1st October

The tension of having hard copies of documents like RC (Registration Certificate) and driving license while driving is about to end. You will also be able to drive your vehicle by keeping only a valid soft copy of these documents attached to the vehicle. It will be valid as evidence during the investigation i.e. hard copy will not be required to be shown. With this you can now use mobile to see the route while driving. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued a notification of various revisions made in the Motor Vehicle Rules 1989, which will come into effect from October 1.

The government said that from October 1, 2020, all documents related to vehicles, including driving licenses and e-currency, will be maintained through an IT portal.

Hard copies will not be demanded during the investigation in lieu of legalized vehicle documents. In addition, the details of invalid and revoked driving licenses will be recorded and updated on the portal by the Licensing Authority.

A fine of Rs.1000 to Rs.5000

The new rules provide that only mobile or similar devices can be used for route navigation while driving, but to ensure that the driver is not distracted. Talking on the phone while driving will not be allowed. This means that from October 1, a fine of Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 can be levied for talking on a mobile while driving.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said in a statement that it has issued an ordinance regarding the revisions made in the Motor Vehicle Rules 1989, which will maintain vehicle related documents and e-currency through the portal from October 1, 2020 for proper monitoring of motor vehicle rules.

The harassment of motorists will stop

The ministry said the use of IT services and electronics monitoring would enable smooth implementation of traffic rules in the country. At the same time it will remove the annoyance of the drivers and will facilitate the people.

Everything will be recorded on the portal

The process of obtaining and making the certificate available physically and electronically on the portal is provided. Thus the validity of the document, the date of its issuance, the time of inspection of the AO and the date coin and the identity of the officer will be recorded on this portal. This will help prevent unnecessary re-inspection of vehicles, which will stop the harassment of drivers.

The new rules provide that a hard copy of the document will not be requested if the enforcement officer sees the details of the document legally through electronic means. This also includes cases in which documents have been seized due to a crime.
