Ayushman Bharat Yojana or Prime Minister’s Public Health Scheme (PMJY) or National Health Protection Scheme is a national scheme that aims to intervene in primary, secondary and tertiary health care systems on a holistic basis. It was launched in 2018 under the aegis of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in India.
National Health Policy, 2017 has envisaged health and wellness centers as the foundation of India’s health system which is the purpose of this scheme.
The Central Government Health Plan (CGHS) was started in 1954 under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. The CGHS was started with the objective of providing comprehensive medical care facilities to the central government employees, pensioners and their dependents. This health plan is now Bhubaneswar, Bhopal, Chandigarh. And operates in cities like Bangalore. The clinic is the backbone of the scheme.
Except for four states: Delhi, Odisha, West Bengal and Telangana, 26 states and union territories accepted the scheme.
